What we expect to be popular in 2020

What we expect to be popular in 2020

Looking ahead at 2020 Wedding Trends

We can’t believe the 2019 Wedding season is nearly coming to an end. What a great year we have had working with amazing couples and some of the best suppliers we have ever seen.

Our Wedding team are already looking forward to what 2020 is set to bring, could it be the greatest year yet for our industry? Here are some top wedding trends we think we will be seeing a lot of next year…

Cakes will forever be a symbol of a Wedding day, there is no getting rid of them whatever shape or form they may be in! We have really enjoyed supplying some of our brides with wedding cakes in 2019. We are finding more of our 2020 brides are asking us to bake their cake. Why not when we have our Master Baker Gill doing the honours. Her carrot cake is my favourite!

We are still very much in an Instagram era and brides want their Wedding cake to look great online. The ‘instagramable’ dripping icing on cakes look to be popular. We have some amazing cake suppliers here in the North East, their work really is a work of art!

Now more than ever we need to find ways to avoid unnecessary waste. Vallum is the perfect venue for couples looking for an eco-friendly wedding day. We keep our food miles as low as possible with vegetables grown in our kitchen garden and meat purchased from North Acomb Farm over the hill from Vallum.

One rule we always have is that only bio-degradable confetti can be used onsite. We think it looks prettier too! How amazing is this confetti shot of Jess & Josh who got married here in May. They created their own confetti by hole punching hearts out of leaves.

Many of the decorations used inside our marquee are upcycled from past couples. We love how they are given a new lease of life every time. This also helps with Wedding budgets too!

We are receiving an increase of enquires from couples looking for a more relaxed wedding day. They want two things, good food and a good party! Seating plans are starting to be a thing of the past, couples want their nearest and dearest to feel comfortable and sit with who they want, where want. On a beautiful day here at Vallum guests want to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible and not feel trapped to a table for hours.

Our Tipi also gives couples the option to have smaller intimate weddings. With its roaring fire and beautiful décor there is very little couples need to do to decorate. Brides and Grooms can spend more time with each other and each guest during their celebrations as well as keeping with tradition.

In June, local couple Sarah and Graham chose an amazing balloon wall as the backdrop to their wedding. The very talented people at Balloon-ilicious created a gorgeous pink and gold wall which became the perfect place for guests to get a selfie. It even had floral touches to match the bridal party bouquets. We already have some of our 2020 brides opting for balloon walls and arches in our marquee after seeing their work. We think they could the over-take flower walls next year. Who knew balloons could look so elegant!!

Something different

In the past weddings generally followed the same formality and traditions. In recent years the rule books have been scrapped and anything and everything goes. We love meeting creative couples who have incredible visions of how they want their day to be. We are lucky enough to offer them such a relaxed venue and plenty of land where their visions can come to life! Next year we are expecting alpacas, outdoor cinemas, festival weddings and murder mystery! How can we not love our job when we get to organise such exciting special days!

Our team are now ready for a Winter of organisation before the madness starts in 2020…

We still have a small number of Summer dates left next year if you are looking to tie the knot
