Here at Vallum we find it hard to believe there are people who do not like wedding cake! Although Weddings are becoming a much more relaxed affair and many traditions have slipped away, Wedding Cakes are sticking around!
With each Wedding here at Vallum brings a whole new theme and character every time. The marquee is a perfect blank canvas for couples to work with and really make it feel like it is their own on their special day.
The Wedding Cake is another way couples are able to show their personality and becomes a centre piece in our marquee. The fact they can eat it too is even more amazing!!
In 2018 we found many of our wedding cakes were tiered high and beautifully decorated with very simple touches. No cake was one flavour, each layer brought a new and exciting taste for wedding guests to try.
Catherine and Andy
Catherine and Andy were lucky enough to have a family friend attending their Wedding who was also a fantastic cake maker. We all watched in awe as she perfectly iced each tier the day before the Wedding. The cake turned out to be tasteful and simple. She even incorporated Wheat into the cake which was also dotted around the venue. This showed Andy’s farming roots which worked perfectly here at Vallum!
Jemma and Colin
Jemma and Colin’s whole wedding was themed around their love for their city, Newcastle! The cake did not shy away from this either. The cake was covered in names of special places they had been together. There were also pictures made of icing of things which mean the most to them, like The Angel of The North and Colin’s favourite tipple! The whole cake represented them both and they were even able to keep the iced names and pictures as a lovely memory of their special day!
Leia and James
Bride Leia required a dairy free cake for her wedding to James. The Jesmond Cake Company are a local business renowned for their beautiful Vegan cakes. They did a perfect job for Leia and James and kept it simple with a few pink flowers to decorate. The cake topper the couple chose was the literally the icing on the cake! They went for a figurine of Princess Leia and Hans Solo, which was a perfect representation of James’ and his very own Princess Leia!
Emma and James
The cake made for the Wedding of Emma and James really took centre stage in our marquee. It added a hint of elegance on our rustic wooden cake stand and barrel. The cake was tall in height which made it stand out over guests. It also included the same stunning flowers Emma had in her bouquet.
Rachel and Dave
Rachel and Dave’s semi naked Wedding Cake was on trend for their wedding in September. With seasonal Fig’s sprayed metallic it gave a sophisticated addition to there beautiful decorations. The cake was packed with flavour, one on the layers was Black Forest and another Salted Caramel…delicious!
Becca and Nick
The Wedding rules were broken with Becca and Nick when they came over from New Zealand to get married here at Vallum! Instead of just one traditional cake they also chose to have a Pork Pie Cake AND Cheese Cake…Amazing! The sweet Wedding cake represented Becca’s sweet tooth and the savoury side was preferred by Nick. This way they were both happy and their love of food was brought together on the day. They displayed all three of their cakes on one of our rustic tables. Becca and her Bridesmaids presented their bouquets alongside the cakes, the outcome was an amazing display which caught the guest’s attention straight away once they were inside the marquee. It’s safe to say no one was left hungry during the evening snacks!
Jessica and Wilton
For our Wedding Team Jessica and Wilton’s wedding cake was the most special to us in 2018. It was the first ever Wedding Cake we had ever made ourselves! The couple gave us full reign on decoration and simply added their cake topper once the cake was complete. They chose a Carrot Cake bottom layer and then the next was Chocolate. The final two layers were gluten free Lemon Drizzle which were perfect for the few guests who were unable to enjoy the other layers. We decorated the cake with figs and strawberries which really brightened up the cake. Our Chef’s even picked Rosemary, Bay Leaf and Gypsophila from our garden which finished off the cake beautifully. We all really enjoyed the whole process of making Jessica and Wilton’s Wedding Cake. We have now added this as another food option in our Wedding brochure!
